instagram instagram engagement instagram tips May 23, 2020

Instagram engagement has been our number one concern; how can we get more comments, DMs and how can we get our followers to actually engage in our posts.

Now I recommend asking ourselves much more regularly: “What can I do for my followers?” rather than “What can my followers do for me?”

Also, along with those same lines, I’d like to share some tips which are very important because they prioritize relationships and who are mutually engaging conversations that are also essential for Instagram’s algorithm.

Tips on Who and What kind Engagement on Instagram:

    1.   Intentionality – If you use your Instagram intentionally, you’ll probably won’t be able to engage with a thousand people on a daily basis but you’ll be able to engage effectively and that will move a needle on your business.
    2.   How much should you engage with other accounts on Instagram?
    •         I recommend 30 minutes, intentional engagement (you can either do three 10-minute segment or six 5-minute segment)
    1.   Who should you be engaging with?
    •         I recommend making a list of 10 specific accounts that have your ideal following. That means that they have more followers than you and they have followers who are in your target niche (let’s also make sure that those followers are engaged).
    1.   What should we do with those lists?
    •         Turn on post notifications for those people, in that way, you can intentionally engage with them and you won’t miss a post.
    •         Instagram will show you their post once you open the app and make sure to engage with those posts.
    •         You should also engage with the people who already commented on that post.

Take away: Before and after post, you should thoughtfully engage for 15 minutes, either to your 10-account list or to their highly engaged followers. This will show Instagram or their algorithm that you’re active.

Recently, I learned that Instagram prioritize what they call “relationships” in the algorithm. So, the machine learning algorithm that Instagram has is constantly picking up with who they think has a relationship with whom. Now, in those 15-minute engagements before and after posting, it’s important that you bump up your relationships you have and those people will more likely to see your post.

So, all together on a day, you will be on Instagram for a total of 1 hour. It might seem a lot but if we’re really trying to be intentional and build our business by growing our Instagram following, then this is part of our work as an entrepreneur.
