  • How To Be Autentic Online or on Social Media

    Aug 14, 2020

Why do we need to be authentic online?

    1. People can see right through it if you’re not being authentic. By being authentic online, you can attract the right people and you won’t turn anyone away.
    2. It’s much more fulfilling to be yourself than to try to pretend to be something that you’re not.
    3. It builds credibility and trust when you’re authentic. The only time we lose credibility is when we fail to admit our mistakes because we all make mistakes.

How to be More Authentic Online

    1. Ask you loved ones or those closest to you what it is that makes you special - why is it that they want to be around you; why they are so drawn to you; Why do they want to always be in your presence and use those characteristics online.
    2. Sharing vs Selling - Make it just like you’re telling your best friend how amazing the product you bought was and how it made you feel and why it’s worth the investment instead of giving detailed information about it.
    3. ABC (Always Be Connecting)  - Connections and relations are what make social media worth it and valuable. When you build a real, tangible relationship with your audience, you’ll appear much more authentic.
    4. Don’t always outsource everything online - If it’s commenting or responding to direct messages or anything along those lines, try to do it personally as much as you can yourself.
    5. Share Emotions - Being emotional is one of the things that makes us human and allows to connect with one another.
    6. Share Stories - Stories are emotion filled and it’s pathological, scientific, mental level, how we connect with one another.
    7. Tell the truth - People can see right through it when you’re not telling the truth and it’s draining to keep up a lie or false presentation of yourself.
    8. Deep acting vs Surface-level acting - When you are conscious or aware of the fact that you are acting, that is surface-level acting and when you’re being truly yourself, that is deep acting or acting without the conscious idea that you’re even try to present anything other than what feels natural. In social media, if you feel like when you’re not being yourself on your content, just delete it and redo it until you sound like yourself.
    9. Accept the fact that you are not for everyone and not everyone is going to love you - It will relieve us of the stress and pressure of trying to please everyone; trying not to offend someone and we can simply attract our liker and follower.
    10. Don’t use too much photoshop, Instagram filters or editing pictures/videos too much - Everybody recognizes that nobody is perfect. So when you’re authentically imperfect yourself, you’ll appear much more likable and trustworthy online.
    11. Speak to one person instead of many - When you refer to your viewers in generality, it reminds the viewers that they are not that special but if you refer to your followers as just one person, it will allow them to feel that they are personally your friend.

Have good intentions behind whatever it is you’re sharing - If your intentions are in the right place, serving others, building relationships, sharing information, just helping people or out coming from a place of gratitude that will shine through.
